After the establishment of the Störkampfstaffeln in the Luftwaffe, the Ar 66 C began to fulfill the role of night bombers, following the example of Soviet units equipped with Polikarpov Po-2 or Polikarpov R-5 aircraft. Conversions were carried out in aviation workshops at the airport in Německý Brod. On 7 October 1943, the light night bomber squadrons were renamed Nachtschlachtgruppen. The "C" then operated in 1., 2. and 4./NSGr.2, NSGr.3, 2./NSGr.4 and NSGr.5 in the USSR, NSGr.8 in Finland and 3./NSGr.11 and NSGr.12 in Lithuania.
