After the success of the Ba. 122, the aircraft was further developed. Another variant was the B-222 built and flown in August 1937. The Rk.17 engine was covered with an aerodynamic NACA cowling and the fuselage was also modified and the landing gear received aerodynamic cowlings. The aircraft was demonstrated at the National Aerobatic Competition but did not even receive a registration certificate. In 1938, another Avia 222 was built, which, unlike the Ba.122, had aerodynamic cowlings and a spur wheel. The aircraft was demonstrated in Yugoslavia in September 1938 by pilot Oldřich Košař. The Avia factory took part in the 3rd national flight of the RČS and in the 2nd national aerobatic competition. Avia used it mainly as a demonstrator. After the occupation of Czechoslovakia, the B-222.1 was sold to Bulgaria in 1939. Avia also produced a second 222 marked B-222 serial No.1 with similar livery and OK-AVB markings.
